Sally Wise Book & better still her website

http://www.sallywise.com.au/

I am reading a book written by Sally Wise who lives in the Derwent Valley in Tasmania...The book is littered with recipes as she is an amazing cook.... who also now runs a cooking school.
In the book are little diary entries as they settle into this farm & I especially loved the story of Tom the stray cat who lived with the ducks   ...I had tears rolling down my face in bed about to go off to sleep when I read this entry......to my utter delight I now see a picture & more of Tom tales .........from Sally's blog.

In the book I read freezing lemons whole & wanted to relay this to my friend & my brother both who have lemon trees with loads of lovely lemons .... & I spotted a divine sounding pumpkin relish .....
The book I am reading is  A YEAR ON THE FARM.

Go to the web site & read the blog & see the cooking school in action...it's such a delightful find her book.
She has other food books etc etc click on the link above & enjoy..

What I wanted to comment on further was the utter survival of some abandoned animals.... and the harsh treatment that carries on through after their rescued life ..scars... the things that make them bolt, go dolally or shy from human touch even though they crave it so much.
In this book Sally talks of the 2 alpacas that came to chew the grassy fields for her....one male had been traumatised in another journey & the female would protect him from humans....

You know though, we, as a race treat & what ?traumatise & or make fun or light of other's experiences at the hands of humans..... animals are not much different ....they carry the fear too.

As a country in the present ways we should but hang our heads in shame..... with the refugees seeking a better place... left abandoned....

There for the grace of God ( dare I use that word ) go us any of us.....
money does not keep anyone warm ..
it buys ways & that is a dehumanising attitude we have sometimes seen far too often......

When I was growing up the humanity in the small town was ever around us.
It was Dad going off to take a free load of wood to so & so because they have the ass out of their pants & they needed wood for cooking & heating then.....
A little labour $$ shared when things were good for him but some others struggled.

The swaggies, men without jobs & no social security & who had left their families to find some work...trekking the country side looking for any jobs or food if that was all that was available & sleeping rough...ordinary men after the war.Fathers & husbands..
NO SOCIAL  JUSTICE then & be very careful ....it can happen again with the stroke of a pen
They were all imprinted in my tiny mind....

A bucket of fruit would be shared from an abundant back yard crop...this was done by many.....shared... sharing ..not charity in the way it is admined today.
Fish, crays, ducks were only caught for food not for gluttony....& nothing really suffered.. it was done as we have laws to save things today.

So I come back to the animals ...
Kindness is not hard ....
it is not one lot against another...
it isn't what you have or do not have...
(it can often be lost quickly if you have it ) .....fraud springs quickly to mind after  reading some of what has suffered by this recent discoveries....
