It began to snow ....

Things are coming together....
This takes away the how am I going to show this off scenario on a table..
Plus the handling of setting it all out on the day
is so greatly reduced..
One may look like one is in control on the day at set up. LOL !!!

I have been doing set ups for over 20 years... 5 years x 11 per year..that began this career.
When I did a market in Canberra...
Boxes of stuff would be transported out in Phil's lovely functional Kingswood station wagon
including the trestle table .... in winter a carpet thing to keep us a wee bit warmer & dryer as it was in the open air..

I would get the boxes all around me, table clothes on...over  couple of boxes that were quickly unpacked..& gave the height to the display
The while the gazebo was being constructed, I would be unpacking & starting to pin on the cloth..
Then on the gazebo once it was in place....
It would go on for a couple of hours...

Meanwhile the stall holders would greet each other as they arrived...
some had driven a long journey before starting a market day.
...nearer to opening I would have some lovely regulars who would arrive early & watch the unpacking with earnest eyes....
I used to let them get into a box or 2 as it often saved me setting up more stuff than I knew where to put it...

So over the years different set ups have been experienced...
Wonderful experiences...as this part of the thought preparation is for me a buzz.
I may need to think of a theme of how I want a booth to look, what I can easily carry as now I do this as a solo...
How to pack my dinky car...& how far I may have to lug stuff....what pins I need...some are T pins, some safety pins..
So it goes on.
...usually now I have travelled the day before...

I have got smarter as years have gone on ..
trying to be partially set up at home in my days before I go away...
it just takes the panic out of it..a bit.

Nov Workshop for Baxter Display Board ideas

I worked on the 3 display boards today to finalise them.....
This is one that has the ideas etc for the workshop at Baxter at 29th Nov 2014
You know this becomes a class in itself....
Another board that will be on display at the workshop will be the bones of the workshop after this one....
As I worked something formed....
I was excited....
I had finally found my road home !!
Finding one's authentic soul ....

I adore any of the boards & each is different & I am ready to play some more..
Goodness knows where this will lead me.... a place I can live a  passionate life from LOL

Display boards for workshop ideas

www.theodoracleave.comwww.theodoracleave.com
These canvas frames I hope have earnt some creator a bit of $$$
because
they are so handy !!!
You know when you do something so simple
cost effective
&
Quick
It works..
I wonder how come I didn't do this before..
I have done button displays on the canvas boards.
This is looking ok...

The 2 boards starting from the left are the ideas directly related to the workshop day..
I get excited looking at the pictures !!!
I made them LOL
The third board button promoting if I am honest...
But layouts with a stocking or maybe 2 will be in the goodies stuff...
So these will also inspire
I want to make oodles of stockings
Love the linen to play with these...

A little more sample ideas making for Workshop

I am making my new paint table available to paint on...LOL
 the sample ideas...
nifty little fun ideas...
to inspire you on the workshop day of 29th November will be  shunted off...
to another resting spot..LOL

I thought maybe I can finish a few half baked ideas before I move them off...
I did that by securing blinged buttons to canvas stencilled stuff...
little bit of painted overlaid fabric under some thing
or to the side of another...
Now what button for that bob bon ....????
I want to make more bon bons & I need to !!!

The day I workshop is not about being instructed but you are guided....then left to just be your beautifully creative self..
I do observe but don't hover....
( Gee my hairdressing training has been so useful...
One would observe in mirrors, not invade a personal space...)

You know you can wander about
take in the ideas sample boards
( oh yes I have plans to place these in simpler terms than flung on the table...)

Have a cup of coffee.....
talk to other gorgeous people....
look at the shop table....
a little retail therapy is not compulsory....

As I said in the last post I bring enough stuff....
....but you will go browsing in odd places after you come to the workshop.....

It is about a connection with other creative people
it isn't about knowing what to do..
when you step into the room & think
Oh My goodness what was I thinking...
Don't think it'll be just fine !!!

What I am experiencing...myself ..now..
is the more I get into this style of workshop...
I am in my bliss...
things come together as my creativity is inspired by just doing what I can share on the day..

I said to myself before....
This is what I want to do from now on...
workshop for creativity....

In reality this could just work its way to the top of my list...
It is an audience up close again that does this...
I have been indoors now for many years painting ..
sure I still will as that is a part of who I have become over the years...
But there is so much more I can explore...
It feels exciting....
It is exciting!!!!

Making sense of it all

This photo is forming a small part of the November Workshop preparation & trying to make sense of what I am displaying..what I want to say basically without words...
****
This often forms the beginnings of my workshops....
an almighty mess....!!!!
a frantic order work load happens about now too ..!!!
So much is left over there to get back to as soon as...
&&&
For this workshop I have decided on a lot of little techniques & stuff to just be creative..
It is going to be best best time !!!!
***A santa stamp I designed is already done...
***Fabric for painting on
*** Paints... some new ones I have also added as they are fun & way out of the usual comfort look..
***Mache Box for painting & decorating
***Frame canvas sort for painting & overlaying & decorating...
***stencils ..adding Christmas ones too & ****some fabric to spray on ..the ink sprays....Note to self try sponge & paint on stencil on fabric...
***See if I have any watercolour paper to also use this spray & stencil technique..
***Bon Bon.... need to decorate these & maybe add some more fabric & other paper stuff ???
***Tags to paint & decorate...
*Strings for things !!!
*** Layouts..yes ... some layouts for use on day & some at home...
***Quickly show the rag ball if anyone wants to know how to do this & make a delicious bowl of them....
***Oh nearly forgot some buttons for each one of the workshop folk..the deer has been resized especially for this workshop & I have other thoughts.... need to order in the raw pieces once I make that decision & paint these.

Gosh I hope my car is big enough to carry it all....  ????
Pack goodie bags for each person,
stamps there are so many now Urghhhh LOL!!
Stencils
Paints & brushes, palettes & water containers for each...paper towel..protective table clothes for tables....my apron
inks & pens
stencils...
Bon bons
Copied layouts
buttons
samples
table cloths
sample stock to demo with...
Clothes & food ... might buy the food once I get to Mornington...as I am sleeping over 2 nights YUM !!!!
Book, notebook to draw in.

Notebook to draw in came in use last Saturday as I was being my vague self chattering to Max & Louise & oh these are sketches that can be stitched or appliqued sort of idea..
Gone they will use these 4 !!!! in their workshop next year....
I am always lost without pen & paper....

More detail on the Max & Louise Workshop in Essendon

When a day happens somewhere...
Much of the preparation goes on behind the scenes for days & sometimes months before..
A design is thought through if you are the one running the workshop..
The sample is made...
Notes & layouts all typed ready to become the pattern you see when you work or buy a pattern.
Organisiers have a different task...
but if you are one and the same...
We might visit this next post...

Yesterday I had the buttons and decorations packed in the car...the night before.
It meant I only had to organise myself and drive up to Essendon.
in a timely fashion !!
I did...manage
Arriving at the hall around 9.30 am to find the organising committee,
had the workshop tables all set
beautifully

and Lisa & Louise were draping their gorgeous quilt creations over racks..
The day had begun...
The project selections were on display outside in the foyer of the hall
A little of my display of decorations

A treat viewing was also had of this divine antique log cabin quilt

Now for something completely different

I am changing the content focus of this blog....
Not sure how this is going to work..
Yet it is time for a change
I could swing a hard right...
or
meander off slightly the other way.

The accent  will be more in regards to my design work..
as a maybe... studio style look what goes on behind the door
different to the working theodoracleave.blogspot.com which is more the shop front.

This means I am going to remove the old posts...
so a warning for those who are on the current feed for here, you might like to remove the feed before these deletes start happening in the following days...

Or stay put & watch what happens .....
